Bits of news; Life has been busy (so what else is new, right?). This semester is winding down, so that only means the papers, presentations, and exams are winding up.

I worked with some neat people on a project in March. The trailer is online: inspirethenewlife.com. I'll be at Globalcomm in Chicago June 4th-7th to see the debut of the full video profiles. I'm so excited to visit Chicago!

The drawback is I'll be missing Vloggercon, since I need that weekend to study for finals. I'm really bummed, because I was really looking forward to meeting people and visiting SF. :(

Oh yeah, Ryan and Verdi put me on the cover of their book! Neat. Support them, learn something, buy it!

Spring semester started on Monday. I missed all my classes this week, so I have massive reading to do this weekend, ugh. I hate studying!!

ARE YOU EXCITED? A VIDEO! It's been a long time, but it feels so good, haha. This one is from realllllly old footage (like 2 months ago, November), and a lot of it is just pictures, sorry. So anyway, Scott ditched class and we headed over to Disneyland. It's nice having pseudo-season passes (long story). It was a really fun day. Man, I LOVE Disneyland so much, I feel so lucky to live 45 minutes away.

So much is going on in my life right now! I was in a tiny car accident on Monday (I'm fine, don't worry), I started my new job, my road trip to NY was cancelled, and I will turn 20 years old on Monday! Yikes. I'll be making another video post hopefully before the weekend is over, just to update the world on what I'm up to. Whew. For now, watch this video... on repeat, hah.

Happy New Year!; I'm back from Big Bear. Being the only girl in a cabin with the guys was entertaining. Although, at times I felt like a mommy, passing out cough drops from my purse, taking care of my boys. Aww. Besides that, much debauchery ensued. It was great!

Changes ahoy; I got a job at Starbucks; I start on Monday. I love the smell of corporate benefits roasting in the morning! Anyway, it'll be nice to have some income. Until then, I'm kind of in a jam. I owe my mom, sister, and credit card company a hefty sum. I'm a horrible saver.

I'm taking the winter quarter off school. This means I have a break until February 21st. Justine (my cousin) and I are planning on a road trip to New York at the end of January. Since I'm so strapped for cash, I'm going to sell my video camera. :( But I'll still make clips with my digital camera.

I'm excited for everything!!

Whoa; New Year's Eve is tonight. I'm heading over to a party with the boy in a few minutes.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were great. Sorry for neglecting this. :/

Tomorrow I leave with the boy and our friends for Big Bear. If there's natural snowfall between now and Wednesday, we'll probably go snowboarding. Anyway, I hope the conditions improve, so I can carve it up (haha, I'm horrible, actually).

My cousin got a tattoo and it was awesome to watch. Video post maybe, pending her uploading the files to me. Life is beautiful!

Life is a rollercoaster; I'm just hanging on tight. I spent a long day at Disneyland with my best friend. I have really crummy video from that day, but it sits on my hard drive, unedited. I suck.

The job situation right now is a big question mark, because the store I wanted to be at is really full; as in, they can't add any more people to their payroll. Damn the accounting department. I'm really disappointed, because I would've loved that job.

So... There is a wonderful boy in my life right now. Actually, we've been friends since freshman year of high school, but it's just so crazy, everything that's been happening in the last couple of months. He is an amazing person and he puts this huge goofy grin on my face whenever I'm with him.

We are going to a wedding this weekend. I have a gorgeous dress. He is going to look so dashing in his suit. I am way excited.

People tell me I look so giddy all the time. I wonder why that is.

PS. Does anyone know what happened to Matt Stenzel of vlogster.com? I really liked his videos... and his site has been dysfunctional for months and months, now. :(

PPS. I HATE COMMENT SPAM. SO. MUCH. I delete like a bajillion spam comments a day. I'm really not interested in your "cool site" about vitamin pills. Really. (Ugh, this is probably just going to increase it... I just can't win, can I?)

It's not over yet; Wow, it's been a month since my last update. Unemployment has been good to me. No really, I'm serious. I'm so much more productive. This picture is from last night's attempted festivities... more on that later.

My last post was kind of pessimistic, but really, I'm loving life. I've been seeing my friends more often and it is supreme-o. Lots of late nights. Lots of laughs.

Last Friday I went to the Meet the Vloggers event at the Grove Apple Store. I am such a spaz when it comes to public speaking, ugh. Thanks Zadi for setting that up. I loved meeting some of the other LA kids. Anyway, if you went to that, hello! Thanks for coming and thanks for visiting.

I interviewed with American Apparel yesterday and they want to hire me. I really do love that company, despite all the bad press they've been getting lately about harassment lawsuits. My interview was at the actual headquarters/factory, and it is truly an awesome company. All the employees were so happy to be there, I could feel it in the air. I also excercised my espanol malo with the service elevator operator, it was hilarious. He didn't speak any English, but I think we had a very nice conversation. He told me I spoke muy bien. Anyway, so come next week, I'll be slanging t-shirts at one of the LA stores. I've sold my soul to retail, haha.

Thursday night I went to the Nintendo Fusion Tour at the Wiltern. I have been listening to Panic! at the Disco non-stop in my car, and they put on such a great show. The lead singer and the bassist have the most hilarious dances. Loved it. I was also really excited to see Motion City Soundtrack live, since I've missed them the last couple times they came to LA. They are pretty adept at rocking your face off as well.

Last night I visited one of my all-time favorite people: Sabrina! We partied on the row, but it was kind of a bust. LAPD really likes to disappoint the neighborhood college kids... and on Halloween, too. For shame. :( Well, I'm not that sad; my costume was the most last minute cop-out ever: lifeguard. Halloween totally snuck up on me, darn.

Tonight I'm going to this. I laughed at the idea too, but I don't care because Jim Adkins is playing, along with Dashboard and AAR. Yipee!

Maybe I should update more often, as to avoid these novels I've been posting lately. :)

Run away; I've been busy, yes. There have been zero video updates, I know. My [new] video camera has languished on my desk for several months now, I suck.

What have I been doing? Well, that new job I got in May stole away my summer, and ever since school started, working has driven me crazy. I quit last week; I just couldn't squeeze in studying, and the wage wasn't worth the stress. My last day is October 15th. My boss is... upset, to say the least. Ever since I broke the news to him last week, he's been very curt whenever he speaks to me (which is only when necessary). I don't know, I feel really guilty for leaving them when they're short on staff already, but my sister says I need to learn to say "no" and take care of myself first. She's right, I suppose. I just wish these last few weeks would go by faster.

So now I need to find a new job. Well, I don't have to, but it's nice to have spending money. Plus, I'm saving up for a new car, and eventually a backpacking trip through Europe (these are long, loooong-term goals). My friend is trying to persuade me to join her in the ranks of Abercrombie clones, but I'm not so sure. I don't wear their clothes as much anymore, and besides, my retail fascination is American Apparel.

I'm also thinking about taking an extended winter break and moving up to Mammoth for a couple of months. It's primo season to be a snowboard bum. We'll see.

Wow, this was quite the text-heavy post; I haven't done this in a while. Reminds me of the pre-video days, hah.

Boring science explanation: The top layer is HCl in cyclohexane, and the bottom layer is HCl in distilled water. We were testing solutions for conductivity. The HCl in water conducts electricity because water is a very polar solvent, and it causes the HCl to form H+ and Cl- ions, which are excellent conductors.

And that, my friend, is why I'm one of 5 people getting an A in the class (sorry, I need to gloat because people in our class think we're ditzy; but really, we're kicking ass, academically speaking).

Nothing fits like old friends; This being summer vacation and all, my friends have come home from their various universities. Yessss. I've missed them heaps! Tonight we watched fireworks. :)

When do I breathe?; Summer school is consuming me. My chemistry class goes from 9am to 2pm, with two 10 minute breaks. 9am to 2pm! That's five hours of ONE class (lecture, lab, leclab)! Then I go to work, and then I come home and collapse. Weeee!! Tomorrow I'm adjusting my work schedule to fewer hours. This is too crazy right now.

It also explains the lack of videos.

Bits and pieces; My sty healed up super fast! In fact, the day after I put up that video, it was all gone. I'm really relieved, because I thought it would turn into some disgusting, huge ordeal... only because that's what happened to a girl I knew in 8th grade. Ew.

Rock!; Last night I went to see a show. First was The Academy Is.... This is the first I've ever heard them, and they put on a really fun live show (or maybe it was just the upbeat crowd). I danced like a fool and had a grand old time. I particulary like their songs "Attention" and "Classifieds". Definitely check them out.

When Mae came on, I decided I would fight the mosh and get up front (instead of off to the side). I got right up to the stage barrier, except for one large, sweaty fellow in front of me. The last time I was that close at a concert (Story of The Year, sometime last year), I almost passed out from the lack of oxygen. The crowd was really mellow for Mae, so it wasn't bad at all.

Hooray for me; My new job kicks ass. I'm working as a secretary (same as my last job) but this new place fits my personality so much better. For one thing, they use Macs. :)

A quasi-update; Last night was the Jimmy Eat World concert. They're my favorite. Mates of State opened and Taking Back Sunday also played.

Unfortunately, we hit some trouble on our way there. Somewhere on the 710 freeway Sabrina's tire blew out. What the heck? It was really scary actually, and we had to pull over to change the tire. I would've loved to have a video to post, but I felt really insensitive, taking pictures during our moment of distress. Standing on the shoulder of a freeway is kind of scary though, the cars zoom by SO FAST.

The concert itself was great. We were way up in the nosebleeds; it would've been nicer to have pit tickets. Well, at least I didn't have to deal with stupid moshers, forced to slide around in their sweat. Who moshes to Jimmy Eat World anyway? I mean really.

Anyway, Tom Linton is still a rock sex god. I could listen to him and Jim sing foreverrrr. Jimmy Eat World is amazing live. Amazing.

Photo 21; I finally got around to scanning in stuff from class.

That is sooo only in LA; This assignment was to capture motion. My partner and I wandered to the preschool across the street, where a group of kids were out for recess. We asked the teacher watching them if we could photograph them for a project, and she hesitantly said yes. As I was taking the camera out of the back, I saw her quickly ripping off all the kids' nametags.

Kids are funny; Also, the little boy sitting on the left of the bench... at first he seemed really friendly, saying to me, "My momma goes to your school!" after I told him I was from across the street. Then, when he saw me taking photos of the kids on the slide, he screamed, "STOP! This is MY class! Don't take pictures of them!" Oh it was so funny, but I solemnly nodded and lowered the camera from my face. When he turned away, I resumed shooting.

"WRAGH! This is MY CLASS! Nooooooo!" Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a blur charging towards me. The next thing I knew, the kid had slapped his hand on the lens and a finger from his other hand had found its way into my eye. (I had squatted down to take pictures from the kids' eye level.) It didn't hurt too much, but I was laughing too hard anyway.

Oooh, Flickr; They are doing some really neat stuff over there. Now, in any other situation, I would have been groveling for a Pro account, but I realize that I don't really use my Flickr account all too often. Plus, there are super talented kids on Flickr that I hope get Pro accounts; then they can post more pictures for me to look at! Nevertheless, I still think Flickr is pretty darn cool.

Amusing; Two incidents from today when I wished I'd had my camera.

1. This afternoon, I was just laying in bed after a nap, and a small moth-like insect crawled over my mouth and approached my nostril. Ew. I thought it was a spider and started reverse-snorting (is there a better term for the blowing-nose action?) like mad. Grossss.

2. I use a Sonicare toothbrush (I attribute my pearly-whites' whiteness to it), and my mom just got her own. I taught her how to use it, but I forgot to tell her to place it in her mouth before turning on. Heh. Needless to say, toothpaste went flying. Oh it was good times.

One last thing that is not amusing at all; in fact, it made me down right sad. My iBook has lost one of its rubber feet. :(

Ugh; Wow, I am really feeling the side effects of being single. Lately everyone has been all snuggly with their beloveds and I have... not. This is not so much as to say that I'm unhappy being single; I guess I just miss the perks of having a boyfriend. More about Arizona; While I was in Arizona, my cousin and I ran the hash. It's a trail run/walk where you try to nab the "hares" by following chalk marks they leave behind. However, sometimes the chalk marks lead to forks in the road, where you have to choose wisely, or you'll be forced to backtrack.

I pretty much died in the cliffs of Arizona. I am wayyy out of shape, and was definitely at the back of the pack for the majority of the run. The scenery was really beautiful (we were at Coon's Bluff in Mesa, AZ) but I could barely catch my breath, much less take pictures (or video).

After the run is over, there's something called the Down-Down. It's a ceremony where you basically toast each other (for really random reasons) just to toast each other. It is heaps of fun.

My cousin and I are going to try and find a hash out here in California to run.

It's been a good weekend so far; Friday night I went to see Canon play at the Roxy. They are a really nice and verrry talented band (and the guitarist is adorable). Check them out if you're into Radiohead.

Saturday morning my sister's boyfriend and I dropped my sister off at the airport. She's gone to Japan for 10 days on vacation. I'm really excited for her. I gave her money to buy me heaps of cute Japanese stuff!

Saturday night we celebrated two of my friends' birthdays. They're sisters and they were born on the same day exactly 3 years apart, cool. We had dinner at BJ's and then cruised over to Dave and Busters for drinking and good times. Really... it was good times. Um, there will be no pictures posted from last night. ;)

Friday and Saturday night involved meeting a lot of new kids and I am tired of reciting my phone number to people, especially when I know they will not remember my name, much less call me.

Wraugh; Procrastination will be the end of me... really. I'm sitting here, trying to churn out a paper that's due tomorrow, and I'm drawing a huge blank. I am so terrible at this.

Honestly, I love my English class and the professor is great, but I'm so frustrated right now. The prompt for this paper is: "Identity: what are some important factors that determine a person's identity?" I barely know my own identity... how am I supposed to come up with a general idea? I'm struggling to find points that are specific enough for me to support without using too many personal pronouns. It's such a broad topic; I can't really come up with a thesis.

The hardest part for me is getting started, but once I figure out what my main ideas are, I'm set. Until then, I put the whole thing off. (This paper was assigned like two weeks ago, ack.)

I guess there will be no sleep for me tonight...

Photography is for lovers; My b&w photo class is fun. We did photograms last week. As soon as I get it back, I'll post it to flickr. Mine didn't come out quite like I envisioned; it's a bit light, and my writing is blurry, but I like it. Today we went shooting for geometric shapes and my friend and I managed to get roof access to one of the buildings; it was so rad.

To the heart; Last night I had a vanity attack and took 40+ photos of myself. Yeah. 92109 is one of my favorite places to be, Pacific Beach.

Shoe Saga Part III; Some supernatural power really does not want me to have my Vans! They came in today and I opened the box to find red checkered slip-ons. Granted, they're cool shoes too, but not the ones I wanted. Grr.

I called them, and the customer service rep asked me to send the shoes back. She also said they only have one pink skully pair left in my size. alsdkjflasdkjf. I placed an order for that last pair, and schlepped the other shoes to the post office. I am disgruntled, to say the least.

Starstruck; Last night I went with my work friends to see a 3-act play in Hollywood. The theater was really small and intimate, and since we're friends with the director/producer, there were free drinks to be had. The play itself was pretty funny. Live theater is just so cool. Afterwards, we wandered Hollywood & Highland and oohed-aahed over all the stuff set-up for the Oscars.

Victory is mine; I found the Vans I wanted online! They should be arriving soon, hopefully.

I'm going to see Jimmy Eat World (<3) on May 14th! I'm so excited.

Crafty!; Today I bought Shrinky Dinks! I can't wait to make stuff with them, like these cute earrings.

Tidbits of social wisdom; fun is what you make of it. There was potential for a LOT of fun last night, but I let other people's attitudes influence how I felt... essentially raining on my [potential] parade. Blah.

Spring Semester

I started my second ever semester of college yesterday! My classes rock so hard: Nutrition, English, Speech, and Beginning Photography. They're all pre-requisites for the nursing program, except photography.

Nutrition class starts at 7am, and I honestly don't know how I'm going to survive such an early hour (see video blog, below). I wanted to commit suicide Monday morning (kidding!). I was considering dropping the class for a different teacher/time, but I rather like my teacher, and it leaves me time to take photography.

My speech class is going to be so fun, I know it. The teacher is incredibly blunt, but the class loved it. He looked at the class (mostly Asian kids) and said, "What happened to all the white people on campus?" but that's okay because that's the exact same thing I thought when I arrived. Seriously, I thought I walked into ESL by accident. (I'm going to burn in hell.)

My english teacher reminds me of Adrien Brody, sort of. He used to be a librarian. (!) He's the sweetest person in the whole world and I think the class is going be a breeeeeeze. (I'll be eating my words later, I bet.) He asked us to write a paragraph about why we're majoring in our majors; I got carried away and wrote two pages, double-spaced. I'm such a nerd. cringe.

Today I managed to get added into beginning photography. I've wanted to take a black & white/darkroom class since junior year, and finally, finally, I got it. (I signed up for photo class in high school, but to my dismay, it was cut out of the program that year.)

I'm really excited.

Who are you? What is this mess???
My name is Annie. I'm 20 years old, I live in California, and this is my blog. Some might call it a videoblog, or a vlog. I started this in early 2005.

What kind of camcorder do you use?
All videos from 7/29/05 and on are shot with a Canon Elura 90. All earlier videos were shot with a digital still camera (I know, can you believe it?). I use a Canon Powershot SD200 in Movie Mode (15fps, 320x240 resolution).

What do you edit with?
I use iMovie 4 on my iBook to edit all my videos. It's not bad, since I'm not really big on fancy effects (and I'm lazy). I use the 3ivx codec to compress into .mov's.

How do you have the bandwidth to do this? I mean, videos are pretty heavy files.
Yeah, tell me about it. Luckily, there are some cool people in the world, like the kids over at Blip.tv (and at Ourmedia and the Archive). That's where my videos live.
